My son sleeps with his mouth open at night. I know that for my grandma it was becuase she had a problem breathing. Could this be the same in a baby?

I think most babies sleep with their mouth opened or semi opened. At think that it takes a little more than just an open mouth to having breathing problems. I would recommend you don't worry much until you see changes in sleeping, eating, and actual breathing.

I think most sleep with their mouths open too. Heck I sleep with my mouth open a lot of the times. I often times wake up with a sore throat though. Does sleeping with your mouth open cause you to snore?

If the only symptom is sleeping with the mouth open then I would not worry too much. Of course if you see other symptoms then you might want to go and talk to your Dr. Try not to worry yourself to much.

I wouldn't worry about it, I know for a fact I sleep with my mouth wide open and I have no breathing problem to speak of. A lot of people do and it isn't necessarily a problem in and of itself.

I sleep with my mouth a little open also, from what I am told. I would not worry about it unless you hear him gasping for breath or notice him not breathing. I have seen several babies do this and they are happy healthy teens or adults now!

There is no problem sleeping with open mouth because the mouth is also a passageway for air. I think it is even better if the baby sleeps with the mouth open because more air will fill the lungs.

My daughter has always slept with her mouth open. They have now found out that it has nothing to do with her breathing, but more with how her teeth are formed and her neck and shoulder alignment. She not only sleeps with her mouth open, but she puts her tongue up against the back of her top teeth. This has become a big problem.

Almost all the children sleep with their mouth open a bit. This is not any kind of sleeping disorder. Nothing to worry about it. One more point to be noted here. It is seen that kids take some of the characteristics of grandparents. So, this reason may also be considered in this case.

often times, there isn't anything to worry about. I've seen plenty of babies sleep with their mouth open. But if you're worried, talk to your doctor about it. They can check his/her breathing and calm you down so you know for sure.
