There is no exact age for the kids to differentiate dream from reality. We just need to explain to them that dreams are not real. Kids will usually find it on their own that dreams are just that, dreams.
My son is 4 and he is now talking about his dreams. He acts as though they happened and can not differentiate between dreams and reality. At what age do children usually realize that dreams are not real?

I dunno I am an adult and sometimes my dreams seem like reality. It does not happen that often though. I would go ahead and start teaching the child the difference between dreams and reality. Not in a mean way but just a factual one.
I would agree the only way you can help your child understand is to talk about it and teach the difference. I would just try to learn where the child is coming from and remind the child that it was in a dream and that real life is different.
Kids have so many things to learn and explaining to them repetitively is the key for them to understand. They would surely ask why a lot of times but we just need to have patience and try to simplify it as much as possible.
Four years age is too young for kids to differentiate between dreams and reality. Anyway, no need to worry about anything even if your child is talking about his or her dreams. This may be normal as many children gets consciousness sooner than other.
He'll figure it out eventually. just talk to him about it. Make up a story so he understands when he goes to sleep, its a dream. and when he wakes up he's done dreaming ! just make it fun so he understands.
