Getting baby to sleep when traveling

I know how hard it is to get babies and small children to sleep in unfamiliar places. One of the things I do is bring along a pillow or small cover that has home smells on it. That usually helps them feel more like they're home.

When our first child was a baby, we traveled a lot, so I purchased a port-a-crib and it went with us everywhere we went. She always had her same bed at night and I didn't have a problem with her going to sleep.

I was very lucky. My girls could sleep anywhere, and under any circumstances. However, to us it was very important to try and maintain the time schedule when we were traveling.

We have a pack n play that we use. I also take along his favorite toys, swing, blanket, and blanket bear. We have had no issues with traveling at all!

Babies always have a favorite blanket or pillow or toy which they like to snuggle up to while sleeping. Never leave it behind when you are traveling - it is the best sleeping aid ever! They feel comfortable and secure and you are not worried about their lack of sleep. It always help to give them something they are familiar with.

Try a wool swaddling blanket. They have been proven to lower babies heart rates and activity rates giving a sounder nights sleep and woll blankets have also been linked to reduced risk of SIDS and overheating. These sleeping pattern imporvements also have been shows to develop into better baby eating habbits, weight gain and faster growth rates. And just as a bonus- they are anti-allergy and anti-microbial and dust mites hate them!!! If you'd like any more advice on wool for babies, please feel free to contact me

Ah.. I have never thought of it that home smells can make kids sleep in unfamiliar places. Thanks for sharing Mariyah. Next time when I travel with kids then will surely take home pillow or cover.

It is really tough to make kids sleep in unfamiliar place. You did a smart job by bringing the house pillow and cover. This is true that they will get the homely smell from the pillow and cover and would fall asleep soon.
