    Lucid Dreaming

The idea of a lucid dream is that you "wake up" within your dream and become consciously aware that you are dreaming. This potentially can allow you to interact with and in your dreams, learning while you sleep etc. Apparently if you become proficient at it you can begin to control your dreams to a greater extent.

So a few steps you can take to try to get to the state of lucid dreaming
1: repeat to yourself over and over during the day the question "Am i awake or am i dreaming" - this makes you more likely to repeat the question during your sleep.
2: focus on one activity during your day for as long as possible - this way you are likely to repeat this in your dreams - ever watched a film and then dreamt about a similar scenario?
3: Keep a dream diary and write your dreams down everyday - this way you will be more consciously involved in your dreams and will recall them more vividly.

Keep this up for long neough and you should be able to start lucid dreaming.

Lucid dreamin is definitely a very interesting topic, hoever, this can take a lot of practice and time. Lucid dreaming the act of actually dreaming while you are awake can even help you form a dream in your head which is an amazing experience. Most of the time this is easily done when the person is somewhat conscious during this sleep. The best time to try to do this is during the morning while waking up

What kind of levels of control are you actually able to exercise during lucid dreaming? Can you as samforreal is saying actually build your dreams or do you just interact in a different way with what is already going on?

Eventually you should be able to exercise complete control over your dreams but initially you should try focusing on trying out simple tasks like jumping or spinning on the spot as this will help you build control. But first you have to become aware of your dreaming which as samforreal says is a little time consuming.

i find lucid dreaming to be very interesting
and i wonder why i don't ever see anything about it in research news / discoveries... there must be some applications for it if we truly get control or if not we are just imagining the whole thing
