I found what HoHumperdinc said extremely funny! Might work... who knows!
Also excellent post by building futures, pretty much agree with whatever he said. It
s very important for your mind to relax before you go to sleep. Nightmares could be the affect of stress, worry or whatever negative emotion you might be carrying the back of your mind.

In addition to these ideas - of which i think being relaxed and calm in your day to day life is probably the best- also try avoiding having too much sugar and caffeine in your diet as these make your mind work in peculiar ways- regretabbly he says with a lucozade in hand but I have a cold

Sleeping would become very uninteresting if we did not dream while sleeping. Somehow it makes the time even more interesting - but I would love to avoid nightmares which make me wake up worried and scared. That should be avoided - but I do not know how.

You can't avoid dreams, however you can try and find out exactly why you are having bad dreams. Sometimes bad dreams can be caused by stress and anxiety.

You can't avoid dreams no matter how hard you try, without the use of strong drugs. Drugs that suppress mental functions, such as opium, can work to inhibit dreaming by making it difficult for the brain to form complex thoughts. Other than that, though, dreaming is a part of life. Everyone dreams several times a night, whether we like it or not.

If your body is more relaxed and your brain is out of tension and stress then dreams can become less or at least you will start dreaming good things. However, it is not confirmed though that dreams will improve if you relax more. But still, you can give a try and see the result yourself.

I don't think you can really control this. The best thing you can do is to clear your mind before you sleep since dreams are dependent on our thought patterns and brain activity during the night.

A lot of people tell you that you can not control your dreams or nightmares. While that's true to a certain extent, there are certain behaviors that have been linked to what you dream. Trying to avoid daily activities and thoughts that are associated with nightmares could really reduce or even eliminate them all together. Certain dreams and nightmares usually occur out of doubts, anger but mostly fears. If this regularly happens to you throughout the day these thoughts and feelings will eventually seek a way out through your subconscious mind.

So how do you avoid getting nightmares?

Below you'll find a few things you can do to avoid getting nightmares:

    1. I've said it before but I'll say it again; relaxation is the key to good and a peaceful night of sleep. Calm your mind and body before you go to bed. Meditate, do yoga or take a hot bath with aromatherapy soaps or oils. Your muscles, nerves and mind will relax and the relaxing scents of the used soaps will keep your relaxed while you fall asleep.
    2. This might sound funny but is actually true. Do not eat spicy or fatty foods before bed as this causes gas and bed smells can actually turn into nightmares.
    3. Nicotine has been linked to sleep disorders in a lot of studies. Stop smoking.
    4. Do not use drugs or medicine that don't directly benefit your health.
    5. When you wake up after a nightmare and are able Write down your nightmare when you wake up in a dream journal. Try to figure out how it relates to your life at present to prevent it from recurring.
    6. To refer back to point 1, find a way to relax. If the above doesn't work, find your own preferred method of relaxation.
    7. Drinking a hot cup of tea or a warm glass of milk before bed can help.
    8. If you're sensitive to horror movies, horror novels or simply scary stories. Avoid them completely. These thoughts can stick around in your subconscious mind for a very long time.

    Good luck!
Thanks for the sleep tips, I could use all the help I can get!Are you a professiional in this area?
