    3rd shift

I was recently moved to 3rd shift at work. I am not fond of it at all! I am getting very little sleep and when it is time for me to sleep my body wants to be up. Anyone else going through this or have that may have some advice?

I had the same experience before. What I did was to make my room as dark as possible and not let any light comes in. This will condition my body that it is still night and that I need to sleep. You can also have a warm bath before sleeping as that will relax your body.

I worked 3rd shift for a long time and unfortunately my body never quite adjusted. I was just always tired because my body knows it is daytime even if my room is dark.

That shift is difficult because it's totally unnatural for your body. I've never had to work those hours before, but I imagine you would get to the place where your body was so worn out that you would sleep from pure exhaustion. I think the idea of making your room totally dark would help. You might leave the radio playing in another room so that every little noise won't wake you up.

I will concur with this one. Playing a classical music will make you sleepy. Being stressed before sleeping won't help so better relax first before you go to sleep.

This is not an easy thing to do but with time and much effort, we can set our internal clock into a different sleeping time. It takes time but as soon as the body gets used to your schedule then you will then go to sleep even at daytime. The problem is if you have adjusted yourself to your sleeping time then your shift will be changed again.

I also agree it is not natural for your body to be up these hours. I was on 3rds for about 3 years and my body never seemed to get use to it. Is their any chance you can switch? I would go with the dark room and radio playing ideas and see if that helps.
