getting more sleep during the day than night

So lately I have been getting around 3-5 hours of sleep each night. But every other day or so i'll take about a 6-8 hour nap. This leaves me staying up later, shortening the amount of sleep I get per night. I have to get up at 6 AM for school, and i really can't get to sleep before 1 AM. Is this a bad sleeping schedule, or is it ok?

Well generally you should be getting a minimum of 8 hours sleep a night. Though I know many people who survive on 6 or so. The problem with your schedule seems to be that your body isn't enjoying it as you need to nap for 6-8hours every other day. I'd be worried this could begin to have negative impacts on your health and mental state after a long period.

I believe that it really depend on what kind of lifestyle you live. I know people who have similar sleeping patterns, since they work shifts. If you feel that you are okay with it and it fits into your schedule and is not affecting your health too much in that case I think it would be okay, because it seems like you are getting enough sleep during the day.

Sleeping more in the day can cause your body clock to change. If you want to rest in the day, it is recommended to only take a short nap of about 15 minutes. That should give you enough rest. But if you sleep too much in the day, you will not able to sleep at night. Hence you will sleep late, and then waking up very late the next morning...

this is a bad habit which will ultimately result in insomnia and/or sleep deprivation simply because you will be able to fall asleep easier if you have taught yourself a strict sleeping hygiene = fixed hours
+ by evolution we were meant to sleep at night, not during the day

You really need to try to break this habit. If you can try not taking a nap and forcing yourself to get to sleep at night. Minimizing your naps to around 30 minutes will help as well. When you sleep more than that it makes your body more tire then you were.
