    Various sleep cycles

I have noticed that many people on this forum have spoken about the sleep cycles - such as that people sleepwalk when they are in the deepest part of their sleep cycle. How many sleep cycles are there and have they been researched?

Research has shown us that there are four sleep cycles which most of us travel through.
Stage One - when you are just about going off to sleep and you drift in and out.
Stage Two - Eye movements stop and the brain slows down
Stage Three - Slow brain waves are interspersed with smaller faster brain waves
Stage 4 - Known as Deep Sleep with no muscle activity or eye movement
