I don't read much, and of course never at night because I love watching TV before sleep, but a friend of mine is too much addicted to reading books before sleeping. He says that he will not fall sleep easily if he don't read books on bed at night.
I love to read. I switched to reading mostly magazines and non-fiction books because it is so hard for me to put down novels and really good story-lines. Even when I am not reading them, my mind will go over and over scenarios in them. I guess I get obsessed with books. They are an escape. I am a sucker for a good story. I love fantasy & sci-fi but will equally go for non-fiction with a good story-line. BUT - that's when the mulling over and over and sometimes feeling frustrated comes in because there is also so much humanity, pain, suffering, and social, medical, and human stupidity in any good story as well as triumph.
So, what I often do before bed is read either an educational (science) magazine I can put down after any short article OR ... I read COMIC BOOKS! I still have my comics from decades ago as well as more recent ones my kids had.
Well, I'm about to get two more books I've been drooling over - but they are good stories. And I know I will be totally immersed in them to the point I am almost scared to go get them. I have to be very self-disciplined not to even bring it into the bedroom because I know myself - I'd be up most of the night reading. I am actually a slow reader and savor the words.
So I wonder what other people do. Can you put down a good book you are immersed in? What about your children? I always let my kids read whatever they wanted before bed. LOL - one of them often read comics also, for the same reason. For us it kind of empties our brain. Reading a comic, I don't think about anything - it like erases thoughts. I don't have a story to obsess about or my day, or anything else.

I love reading books before sleeping. I am simply addicted to it. This addiction came in me from my school days when I had to study late night. These days I watch TV and also read something simultaneously before sleeping. TV is not so important but I only watch news channel so that I can listen to news and not watch it with concentration. So, my concentration is always in the book or magazine that I read.
I also love reading before sleep. I still do so while watching TV before going for sleep.
I read a few verses from the bible and maybe a science magazine or two before I go to sleep usually.
Yes! Science magazines. I still get my "Science News" in magazine format. The fact that I WANT to read it, and each article has a definite beginning and ending and takes only a short time to read helps me because there are multiple solid stopping points. The only problem for me is if it is about a topic of concern for me that will upset me - dying off of some animal or other or climate change, or our food or water issues. For that reason alone I started back into the comic books right before sleep.
I have read two of the LONG books I wanted to, and as I feared, they kept me up reading them. I have 3 more on my coffee table calling out to me to read them ;-) but I am taking a course this summer and know I better not get started on them. . .
I think it is dangerous to read before sleep, because even though most of the time it is a very pleasant experience, there still, relatively often happen days when the book is so interesting you keep on reading instead of sleeping so you sacrifice health for fun...
I do not read before bed, but if I did I would read something that is calming or relaxing for your mind. I have read that it is not good for your mind to read or watch something dramatic before bed because it effects how you sleep.
