interesting, hard to tell
are your sleeping hours fixed? if you have irregular sleep patterns then this could be the cause
also maybe if you have other medical conditions this could be a side effect...
For 15 years now I have been waking up feeling unrefreshed. I could get 8 hours of sleep but it feels like I haven't slept at all. The ONLY thing that will clear this foggy feeling is to fall BACK asleep even if only for a few mintutes. I think it's something to do with that falling off process, that wave that overtakes you when you're dozing off, that clears this sensation. If I don't manage to get back to sleep, I am faced with a long day of feeling not only unrested but not in the mood to communicate at all.
I'm a healthy person and eat whole foods. I've tried motrin, caffiene, yoga, breathing, driking plenty of water and nothing helps. I don't always have time the luxury of falling back to sleep. Plus it's a waste of time! I also haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing this but I would love to conquer it. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Thanks, Gregory. No, my sleeping hours vary slightly - more so on the weekends. If I stay up too late I have to take a nap. No other medical conditions (that I know of). I'm quite healthy: weight, diet, excercise, yoga, etc. It's just baffling. Thanks again.
hi, what you are saying does not glue together
if your body would be getting proper quality sleep then you would not have the feeling that you have. That means that something happens during your sleeping which you are not aware of. I am thinking in the direction of sleep apnea where people stop breathing while they sleep (but you would not know it yourself, only another person can see that).
That said I would suggest you 2 options:
1) If you have the money / health insurance then go to a sleep clinic / sleep lab where they can monitor your sleep and discover what's going on wrong during your sleep
2) If for whatever reason you can not do the above, you can try to test yourself by recording yourself while you sleep and then watching it when awake. Naturally this is bad accuracy and bad equipment and bad science but its better than nothing
I was reading an article on the Huffington Post in which they did a study on people who wake up tired. I guess it is proven that if you have a certain type of gene you may still feel tired waking up in the morning. I forgot what type of gene, but was pretty interesting. And I agree something could be happening to your sleeping in the middle of the night.

Try sleeping on Bamboo Bed Sheets. They seem to help a lot of people sleep that don't know why. They can be pricy but there is a store called thegoodnight.com they are more economical than most retailers. You guys should check the sheets out they are soft , breathable, and the sheets stay cool in the heat.
I really wants to tell thanks to the post owner because i really like the discussion going on. One my friend have same problem and i will ask him what he had done to get his daily morning with freshness.
Waking up tired may be due to a shorter deep sleep cycle which occurs with age or waking from deep sleep. To stop waking from a deep sleep cycle remember that each complete sleep cycle is 90 minutes long so train yourself to sleep 7.5 hours each night. Deep sleep is very vulnerable to medication, stress or anything that may disrupt your sleep during the night such as the room is too hot, too much light, too noisy etc.
Hi clover
I read your post very interesting. Sleep is also important part of the body. If you have not sleep properly minimum 8 hours you are not feeling well that why make surely u sleep minimum 8 hours.
