I have heard a lot of debate over this. But I do recall reading that when you are on a schedule your brain knows what to expect so you reach a deeper level of sleep. But there are probably more scientific reasons behind it.
I have always been told to sleep and wake up at approximately the same time every day, and that is what I've always done. What's the benefit of doing that? Are there any health benefits to sticking to a proper sleep schedule?

For me, the good thing about having a regular sleep pattern is that it will make your body have a schedule of sleeping. You will then have a easy time getting to sleep because of the schedule in your body clock.
I also read about the chemicals released by the brain when we are in deep sleep. These chemicals will energize us for the next day.
I am totally convinced about the wisdom of having a sleeping schedule. Outside of not confusing your brain regarding your body's biorhythm, a naturopathic doctor explained something else to me. Leaving the technical stuff out, suffice it to say that sleeping is when all the natural repair and healing processes of the body takes place. The vital processes are from 10pm to 2am, though the entire process goes all the way to 6am. When I followed the doctor's advise, I experienced a tremendous difference. I woke up much more refreshed, even if the number of sleeping hours remained the same. (Let me add though that the naturopathic doctor advised me to do other things for healthy living outside of managing my sleep).
Sleeping schedule is very important topic for discussion. Your information provide me really great information, thanks a lot for sharing such kind of information. Nice information given by all of you.
Yes, it is beneficial to have a sleep schedule. When i had troubles sleeping at night i tried changing many differnt things, including having a consistent sleeping schedule. It does seem to work for me. When you get into a consistent sleeping schedule your brain gets use to waking up at the same time of the day.
I agree, even known I still have insomnia it helps me get to a point where I am more tired at night because of my night sleeping schedule.
actually one of the easiest ways to see if it is beneficial or not is to break it
then you immediately can see problems like insomnia, sleep deprivation, which get worse and worse until your life becomes miserable and you end up in depression
