    Sleep Paralysis

Have you ever experienced sleep paralysis before? A friend of mine had her first experience with it last week and it just about scared her to death. The worst part is that the doctors can't tell her why it happened all of a sudden or if it will happen to her again.

Hello! I have sleep paralysis. Happens every two years. I posted my experience in the newbie section. It really is scary. Your friend is not exaggerating when she says it scared her to death. I read from "researching" about the subject, that instead of panicking in your sleep, you should actually relax. It will be easier to move your muscles and wake up from the sleep paralysis when your body is stress-free.

This is good advice for almost all forms of temporary paralysis. There is really no benchmark as to why this happens - but it is easy to say -relax - but it is hard to do specially if you are scared and panic-stricken. Maybe just letting the phase pass without trying to do something drastic would be a good process and may lead to an end to the paralysis.

Ksmi has pointed out good thing that a person should try to relax instead of panicking. Panic never helps and it may complicate the situation more. When a body is stress-free, sleep paralysis goes away.

Sleep paralysis is not considered a dangerous health problem. Sleep paralysis is simply a sign that your body is not moving smoothly through the stages of sleep. Rarely is sleep paralysis linked to deep underlying psychiatric problems. Sleeping paralysis occurs when a person passes between stages of wakefulness and sleep.

Sleep paralysis is sometimes not a problem. Some people who foray into lucid dreaming experience it often, and they learn to see it as calming and soothing, and even look forward to it. Those who experiment with drugs or alcohol before bed also experience it often. However, it can be scary for the uninitiated.

I have had sleep paralysis off and on for the past couple years. It never was a problem until about two months ago. I have had it almost every night for the past two months (the only time i haven't experienced it is if i have gone out to the bars/or drank before i went to sleep) otherwise, i get it every night. It has gotten to the point where i'm too scared to fall asleep. I will literally stay up til 9 or 10am everyday, or until i literally cannot keep my eyes open anymore. It the most terrible feeling in the world. My whole body is paralyzed, and most of the time there is some sort of figure trying to get me and kill me and i cannot move. Sometimes there is someone i know that i can see, and will try and try to yell their name but i cant make a sound and they will just stand there watching this figure try and kill me. Also I cant tell when it is about to happen. I feel like i am lucid dreaming, and the dream is always happy/fine, but then i know what's gonna happen next but i still cannot wake myself up, then the sleep paralysis happen. I don't know what to do anymore and i am sick/scared/tired of this. help me please!
