    Extremly long sleep

I seem to have an unique problem. I can sleep up to 40 hours nonstop, rarely over 30 hours thou. Also I sleep extremly deep. I've slept one arms lenght from an firing AK47 (swedish version of a M16), I've slept while they changed the floor in my apartment, slept when they used sledgehammer to break the tilewalls in my bathroom, I slept while they used that machine which name I don't know in english to "break" the concrete floor in my apartment. My bed is roughly 5m (15 feet?)from the bathroom and there's a glasdoor in between.

I can sleep as every healthy person do for about a month which for me is 8-9 hours. I'm very carefull with my sleep. But eventually when I wake I've missed a whole day. I dont even watch the time when I wake up anymore I just check the date.

I've tried to find information about a similair condition but I can't find anything which comes even close. I find information about when people sleep long but they talk about 12-13 hours nonstop, no offense here but from my point of view that's nothing. I'm what some consider lucky I will to sleep in a labratorie for one night or more. Hopefully they will find out what's wrong.

But my reason for posting here is to check if anyone have a similair problem or even heard about it? Any comment what so ever would be appreciated.

Edit: I never use any drugs, I rarely drink and when I do it's a glas of whine a small whiskey or 1-2 beers which happens approximately 5-6 times a year. I excersice, my weight is 75kg (160lbs?). I have some medication but it has never been reported any sleeping troubles with them.

Looks like it is a really rare problem since noone has posted anything in 5 months... Have you checked this: go to google and put in "I sleep all the time....What is wrong with me???" ?

I've been in a labratory. They've som ideas but can't tell anythng for certain. Most likely my brain don't start to produce "wake-up proteins", nothing they can check or prove. A rare problem. The doctor at the labratory estimated to roughly 100 people in Sweden. The problem is somewhat solved. Staff come and wake me up every day at any given time I've decided, but no medication or surgery can help me.

But still I can't controll my sleep at all.

Please look into "Kleine Levin Syndrome." Kleine-Levin Syndrome Foundation Inc.
and two books that mention it are: "Kleine-Levin Syndrome" by FREDERIC P. VANDOME, AGNES F. MCBREWSTER and "It's Not Mental" by JEANIE WOLFSON

I'll talk about Kleine-Levin Syndrom next time I meet with the doctor at the labratory in a few weeks. Thank you for the tip Naomi.

Naomi, don't you think you are promoting this book too often in this sleep forum?

I can remember once where I slept a very long time, persons were trying to wake me up and couldn't, and were worried. I'm not sure what could be the cause of your problem. If sleep disorders or sleep problems are prevalent in your family perhaps that explain why you have a major sleep issue .

LOL, you should apply to be in Guinness Book of World Record. i hope you aren't kidding that you can sleep for 40 hours without waking up in the middle. You are truly unique and one of you own kind. I suggest you to register your name in world record book.

I have had this problem shortly after experimenting with lucid dreaming. I used alarms to wake myself up out of REM sleep cycles, and i would wake up like that many times a night. After a while, I stopped waking up and no matter how loud I set the alarm, nothing could wake me. I could have slept through gunshots, same as you. If you use anything to wake yourself up, try not using it. Try getting someone to wake you up, anyone.
