    yes I do believe sleep apnea can be treated.

    It can be treated with many different techniques. The first you should try is a different sleeping position. Somebody sleeping on their side is much less likely to have problems with sleep apnea, and there are many different pillows that can help achieve this by ensuring that the sleeper does not roll over.

    There are many experimental treatments, but none that are permanent and established. The main form of treatment now is just managing the symptoms and reducing the frequency and severity of the problem. This includes counseling on sleeping psitions like Carlos said, and medications to treat the sleep attacks and cataplexy.

    Sorry to hear about your dad. I know a person with the same problem and he underwent surgery. Now he is completely fine.
