    How to fix it?

My dad was just diagnosed with sleep apnea. I would like to know how it is fixed? Will he always have to wear the face mask for the rest of his life?

I have been reading that depending on the type of sleep apnea there are different treatments. Besides the mask, there is also a contraption that keeps the jaw in place.

I'm so sorry for your dad. I have been having problems myself, but I am afraid to get a professional diagnosed. I don't think I would be able to use the mask to sleep.

I'm sorry to hear that your Dad has sleep apnea. I'm sure his doctor will tell him his different options. My niece had it and they removed her tonsils because that was part of her problem. They were so big that when she slept on her back she had very little space to breathe. It helped her tremendously, but she still sleeps with a mask.

Sleep apnea can be treated and must be treated. My brother uses a mask and now he sleeps very comfortably. It makes life easier for him and his wife, since they were always worried about it and she would keep waking up to check him and shake him in order to breathe correctly again.
    Get it treated - quickly.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad's condition. I have some sort of an idea what you're feeling. I suspect my sister has sleep apnea, too. Was reading its symptoms from this site: Fitness Health Talk and found out that she has most of the symptoms written in there. Would also like to know how much consultations would cost? And can insurance cover such costs? Thank you.

I have had my brother treated for it and he has been given a simple mask to sleep with - and he sleeps much better and so does his wife. She would get so scared when he would suddenly stop breathing - that half the time she was not getting enough sleep. But the mask does help - and I believe there are other ways to help breathe easier also.

Frances, you must get it treated, not only for the health risks that come with but for your own safety and others if you drive. plus your quality of life will change so much for the better.
i was daignosed last October, i have it very bad, i stopped breathing 482 times during a 7.5 hr sleep. I used to fall asleep as soon as I sat down, sometimes i would sit down with laptop on my lap and wake up with it by my feet, I have even fallen asleep standing up leaning against a wall. I had no problem from day one with the CPAP machine, yes at first its strange but it works. After my 1st night with it i've not fallen asleep at all other than when i go to bed.

i never feel tired now and i never get up late in the morning now where as before i'd stay in bed until at least 11am whenever i could, now i'm up at 7.30 most days and feel refreshed.

    good luck
