    Weightloss

My dad was back into the doctor yesterday and the doctor told him if he lost weight the Sleep Apnea may cure itself. My dad is about 50 pounds overweight, but I wouldn't think that it would be a cause?

Actually being obese puts pressure on your organs and is one of the underlying risk factors for many diseases including sleep apnea. Your dad is actually more likely to have it because he fits a lot of the risk factors which are obesity, gender (males are more likely to get it) and I am assuming he is over 40. But lowering one risk factor can help.

That would be great if losing weight would take care of the problem for him. If it was me and the doctor told me that, I would do everything I possibly could to lose weight. Not only might it help the sleep apnea go away it would cut his risk considerably for other diseases.

50 pounds of extra will surely make the heart work harder. It may or may not cause the sleep apnea but it is better for him to reduce weight as it will be healthier for him.

My dad is not heavy at all and they think he has sleep apnea too. So it has to be caused by much more than being overweight. I bet the weight problem has something to do with it too. How about swimming? Swimming exercises are easier on the body and he could lose weight that way.
