I've had asthma since a kid, and i haven't had trouble sleeping at night due to breathing unless i'm really sick or something.
I am just wondering if there is any relationship between sleep apnea and asthma. My son is asthmatic and sometimes I wonder if he might also have a mild form of sleep apnea.

asthma and sleep apnea can be related to each other and their occurrence may pose as a life-threatening problem to affected individuals. Nonetheless, there are many available treatment solutions for these breathing disorders and patients need not fear, as long as they relay their medical problems to their doctors immediately.
Like saradalton said, the two can be related. Studies show that asthmatics are at an increased risk for sleep apnea, and chronic sleep apnea worsens asthma. Sleep apnea can worsen it by increasing acid reflux, causing decreased airflow to the lungs, and increased inflammation in the lungs and surrounding area.
To figure out if your son really has a case of sleep apnea, observe him sleeping for a few nights in a row. See if he breathes slowly and easily, and that he sleeps calmly throughout the night. You might even see points where he looks like he's stopped breathing for a few seconds, which you should report to a pediatrician.
