Having sleep deprivation is like waking up drunk. You ahve a hard time speaking, and you are exhausted. You become really irritated with people and start to get angry at people for no reason. Furthermore, you tend to have some memory loss, but it is not long term.

I have the opposite problem. When I sleep more than 3 hours I feel sleep deprived. I don't get it, does anyone else wake up after a few hours and feel like they no longer need sleep?

I believe it is all about training our minds. I was reading that we learn as kids the power of habit and repetition and as adults we ignore it. If you tell yourself that three hours is enough sleep after a while, your mind will believe it. It's all about feeding negativity to our "reptile mind" - another term I came across while reading. I am certainly learning a lot. One strategy is to stay in bed, when you feel ethe urge to get up after just a few hours, fight it, calm your mind, think pleasant, relaxing thoughts and rest your body.

Due to depression, I have been unable to sleep more than 4 hours a day for the last 4 months even with sleeping aid. Now, my brain is 80% dead, it hurts, reacts slow, can not reason things, and I become very weak also. I worried that I would not be able to get up from bed and handle daily chore soon.

Thanks for this site!! Man... I've had sleep deprivation... For me it felt like a really, cloudy, fuzzy head... I couldn't think straight... I couldn't make sense of words people were saying to me... And I found it difficult to communicate properly. More than that though... Because I was so tired I was hooked on sugar fixes during the day and that made me feel grumpy and irritable... (lol.. may be that's because I was tired!).... Not a pleasant experience.
