Yep, I agree. The worse part about insomnia is that you don't get the rest you need so you can't just stay up and keep yourself busy. The mind has to be quieted and the natural brain chemicals need to work at the right time in the proper quantities.

I use aromatherapy sometimes with better results.. In aromatherapy, the essential oils are utilized topically instead of being taken internally. The essential oils are said to perk up an area of the brain, known as the limbic system that commands mood and emotion. Try out adding a couple of drops of essential oil to warm water for a unwinding bath or footbath, or spritz the oil onto a hankie or small pillow..

That sounds like a good idea. I have some oils already but haven't tried that. Do you know which oils are best for insomnia?

There are natural ways to cure insomnia but it does depend on what type of insomnia you suffer from. Types include primary, chronic, learned and psychophysiological. I saw some interesting facts on this page as I myself have plenty trouble getting to sleep

Enjoy and I hope you get some natural sleep soon!

You may as well prefer to try blending the relaxing benefits of aromatherapy and massage by making your own scented massage oil. Dilute one to 3 drops of essential oil per teaspoonful of an unscented carrier oil, like almond or grape-seed oil. (Do not utilize undiluted essential oil by placing directly on to your skin.)

Here's a sweet but powerful mixture for an herbal pillow:
    · 4 parts dried out lavender leaves
    · 2 parts dried out hops
    · 2 parts dried out rose petals
    · 1 part dried out chamomile
    · 1 part dried out lemon balm

Yeah there are many natural ways for a good sleep, but you should follow them. I am suggesting you some ways:

Set a sleep schedule – and stick with it
    Keep a sleep diary
    Stop smoking
    Review your medications
Exercise, but not within 4 hours of bedtime
    Cut caffeine after 2 p.m.
    Write down your woes
    Take time to wind down
    Sip milk, not a martini
    Snack on cheese and crackers

If you follow these , surely you will get benefit of these.

Aneilm is right - this all boils down to "Sleep Hygiene" first and foremost. Do that before you start ingesting, smelling, rubbing, listening, or humming anything. Once the hygiene is good, and you're still not sleeping, then investigate the other stuff. Look up "Sleep Hygiene" on the web - you'll get thousands of hits.
