No one is really sure what causes sleep narcolepsy. It is believed that it could be genetic and/or related to an abnormality in the brain that controls REM sleep.
How do someone acquire this sleeping disorder? Will this be inherited from your parents? How do we prevent this disorder from happening in the first place?

I've searched the cause of narcolepsy in the internet and I found out that this disorder has something to do with hypocretins, a chemical substance produced in the hypothalamus. It is also said that this is a hereditary disease so we won't acquire it if there is no one in the family who has this disorder.
It is a relieve to find out that this is a hereditary disease. I am very sorry for those who inherit it. Fortunately, there is treatment and alternatives available.
