My grandpa was a sleep walker and my mom is not. I am not either, so I'm thinking it is probably not hereditary. Of course that is just what I think, I don't know for sure. I don't even know what causes people to sleep walk.
Can children acquire sleepwalking by inheriting the trait from their parents? How can someone develop sleepwalking? At what age does sleepwalking develops?
I have some relatives that sleepwalk and I hope that my future children won't acquire this trait.

I don't really know if it is hereditary, but in my family most everybody sleep walks, sleep talks or both. It gets really interesting when we have family over. We never know who is going to be walking around at midnight. We have some good family stories.
What a good question! I have never really thought much about sleep walking that way before. I might venture to say that sleep walking that has to do with other illnesses may be hereditary by default.
No body in my family that I am aware of sleepwalks. But my dad, I, and my daughter all do. I do not believe it is a heredity issue but maybe.
If ever this can't be attributed to heredity then what causes a person to sleep walk? Does the lifestyle of a person affect the development of sleepwalking?
